The courtyard of the Iron Gate Hotel from the room. The weather stayed fine and al fresco breakfasts were very pleasant. | Val enjoys browsing the stalls in the Old Town Market |
 The
"Astronomical Clock". Every hour hundreds of tourist crowd into the
square to watch a couple of apostles and a cockerel make a desultry
walk before the clock chimes. We called it the "Anticlimactical Clock" | The Old Town Square with the Tyn Church in the background. |
The astronomical Clock is the first of many towers of various heights that we climb up. | The view over the town is quite impressive... |
 ...
and gives the best view of the Tyn Chruch which can hardly be seen from
the ground as it nestles amongst the newer buildings. | ! |
Finished off the first day with a posh (and expensive!) meal with "Gypsy Musicians". The dulcimer player was very impressive. | The Charles Bridge is packed with tourists . . . |
 ... musicians... | ... street traders ... |
...statues... | ... and someone who didn't want her picture taken (sorry Val!). |
There are a lot of churches (I can't even remember which one this is), but some of them are quite impressive... | ... and some of the saints seem to be quite aggressive! |
The view from the Castle is amazing - an excellent place for lunch. | Even
I am impressed by St. Vitus' Cathedral, in the Castle complex, which is
the biggest of the lot and took 600 years (1344 - 1929) to build. |
Day 3. Up the Funicular Railway to the copy of the Eiffel Tower - yet another tower, but the best view of the lot. | Back
down in the square a girl is demonstrating the "Segway", a very clever
electrical vehical with a gyroscope and a computer to balance it |
It takes a bit of getting the hang of... | ... but is great when you get going, although I wouldn't pay the GBP30 per hour hire charge. |
We round off the trip with a river cruise - The Charles Bridge is in the background. | And we're glad of a bit of relaxation after climbing all those towers! |
